Preserving Philippine Cinema: ASDC Designs the Philippine Heritage Building

Last April 8, 2026, the inauguration of the Philippine Heritage Building was officially conducted, marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing commitment to preserving and celebrating Filipino cinema, culture, and creative heritage.

Aniel Santos Design Co. proudly took part in shaping this landmark project through the design of several key interior spaces within the building. The firm primarily designed the Main Lobby, the Cinematheque Lobby, as well as the Director’s Office and Staff Offices, carefully crafting each environment to reflect both modern functionality and the timeless character of Philippine film heritage.

The overall design language of the project embraces a contemporary yet warm aesthetic. Clean architectural lines, textured wood finishes, soft lighting, and refined material palettes were thoughtfully integrated to create spaces that feel professional, welcoming, and culturally grounded. Every area was designed not only for operational efficiency but also to enhance the visitor experience through atmosphere and spatial storytelling.

The Main Lobby and Cinematheque Lobby were envisioned as inviting transition spaces where visitors are immediately immersed in the spirit of cinema. Inspired by the elegance of classic film houses while maintaining a modern sensibility, these areas feature warm wood tones, curated lighting, and gallery-like walls that celebrate Philippine film culture. The design encourages interaction, gathering, and appreciation, turning the lobbies into more than circulation spaces, but destinations in themselves.

Meanwhile, the administrative and executive spaces were designed with a balance of sophistication and practicality. The Director’s Office incorporates contemporary finishes with subtle luxury, featuring lounge seating, textured wall elements, and carefully selected furnishings that create a calm yet distinguished working environment. Adjacent staff offices prioritize openness, productivity, and collaboration through glass partitions, natural tones, and efficient layouts that maximize functionality while maintaining visual continuity throughout the project.

The Philippine Heritage Building stands not only as a physical structure, but as a symbol of creative preservation, cultural identity, and the future of Filipino storytelling. Through thoughtful architecture and interior design, the project transforms everyday spaces into meaningful experiences that celebrate the nation’s artistic heritage for generations to come.
